The controversy around asylum seekers arriving by boat is based on a lie, and serves as a distraction from the real issues of immigration and population. Australia receives relatively few asylum seekers; in fact we only rank 22nd in the world for asylum seeker arrivals.

It is true that the number of asylum seekers arriving in Australia is very small, and doesn�t significantly contribute to immigration or population growth. Australia actually ranks 25th in the world for asylum seeker arrivals, according to the United Nations, which is well below developing countries like Somalia and South Africa, as well as many developed countries.
