Someone said

Seventeen Vietnamese asylum seeker boys, believed to be victims of human trafficking, have gone missing from Australian immigration facilities. In spite of this, an investigation has not been launched by the Australian police, nor was the Vietnamese embassy in Canberra notified over the ordeal. Moreover, the Immigration Department failed to report the children as missing. Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young criticised the Minister for Immigration Chris Bowen, who is responsible for the children’s saftey. “This is a clear and awful example of what is going wrong with the system, when the minister is the only one responsible for them, and advocating for them, and he lost them [the boys]”.

Accroding to the most recent statistics, there are 489 minors placed in community detention and 588 in “alternative” detention centres. In 2010 the federal government pledged to release children from immigration detention. He holds a legal obilgation to look after the welfare of these children.
